What Alumni Say About Us!

  • ACC gave me a solid foundation to build, design, and animate websites. The design courses have been especially helpful, which came as a surprize as my focus is development not design. Thanks to my basic knowledge I’m able to take designs and execute them at a higher quality than most developers with much less back and forth revisions by identifying the design patterns being used. After graduation I freelanced as a full service web site design and development and eventually was noticed by a company in Halifax, NS. In halifax I shifted focus and gained valuable experience in the software development team. I now specialize in web applications, front end architecture, and contribute to open source development. • The two years that I spent in the IMA Program completely changed my life. After my practicum, I spent eight months as a television and radio news reporter, and four years as a promotions coordinator and entertainment reporter AND a fill in on the morning show of Medicine Hat’s country music radio station. It was the experience I gained in Alberta that led me to my next move—back home to Manitoba, to do sales, marketing and promotions for a community newspaper. The life I have today is all thanks to the instructors, my peers and the program. It gave me a unique opportunity to find out who I was, and the person I wanted to become.

  • Well since graduating from the ACC IMA program in 2010, I've done quite a bit. I started of working as a Public Affairs Officer for the Nunavut Arctic College. It was great, I did a lot of website redesign work and also travelling to trade shows and promoting the college. Now I am the Tourism Director for the Hamlet of Arviat, where we specialize in cultural tourism and wildlife viewing. I do everything from maintaining the website to creating promotional/marketing material. I also plan tours, attend trade shows and promote Inuit Culture everywhere I go.I have been invited to speak at international forums on Aboriginal and Cultural Tourism, I have been nominated for National and International tourism awards and none of that would have been possible without the skills I learned in the IMA program.

  • Without Assiniboine Community College, it's safe to say I wouldn't be where I am today. ACC's Media Production program and its instructors do an amazing job of teaching students a wide range of skills - everything from running a control room to being in front of a camera. This ability to be flexible in the workplace allowed me to launch my career as a part time camera guy in Brandon and grow it to where I am today as a sports anchor for Global News in Winnipeg. The media industry continues to evolve and I'm confident I'll continue to succeed thanks to ACC.

  • Hi, my name is Steve Lindenberg, class of 2007 from the Assiniboine College Web Design program. I've spent the last two years working as an independant contractor after 4 years at Canada's largest marketing agency. I'm currently based out of Vancouver, BC. The program provided me with the foundation for my career as an interactive developer. Very simply, there is no way that I would be where I am today without it. The material covered was up-to-date, thorough, and essential for my day-to-day work. The instructors were passionate and infinitely available to anyone who expressed the interest. The practicum placement proved invaluable. I stayed on at my placement for four years, and do 90% of my current work for contacts made in that position. 2007 Interactive Media Arts - Interactive Developer Specialization

  • I'm a video journalist for CBC Edmonton. I shoot, edit, write, and report my own stories. I worked at a small market station like CHAT 6 + 3 in Medicine Hat, fresh out of school, and went on to work at Global Edmonton to where I am now in 8 years. My versatility started in training at Assiniboine Community College. I learned a wide variety of skills, with relevant technology from camera to editing equipment. They have realistic deadlines in completing a story within just over 24 hours. Not to mention a daily news show that puts accurate stresses on students like any live news show in the nation. The hands on training is phenomenal. I highly recommend the Media Production program at ACC.
